“DeeptechCFO removes fundraising barriers and helps founders actualise their science, and I’m excited to see more groundbreaking ideas reach the world, and change it for the better.”
Dr Matthew Halstead is a fractional CFO specialising in deeptech and engineering startups, and a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of startup leadership experience across MD, CFO, COO, and Board roles.
With a background that spans biotech, AI, medtech, digital health, manufacturing, automotive, and SaaS, my passion has always been the commercialisation of science; turning research into viable, scalable ventures.
I hold an MSci in Chemistry and Molecular Physics and a PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, which has taught me to think like a scientist, while my professional career trained me to think like a CFO. This dual perspective sits at the heart of how I help founders bridge science and finance to help them commercialise their science.
“I’m fascinated by the possibilities of agentic AI workflows as a way to build lean, profitable, and fast-growing deeptech startups. The DeeptechCFO workflow tools help founders think like a CFO and automates the manual, error-prone process of creating credible, investor-grade fundraising financials through a conversational interface.”
I’ve sat on both sides of the table, raising money and reviewing pitch decks and financials for deeptech founders and investors. So I know that good science often stalls not because the technology is weak, but because the path to commercialisation and numbers aren’t clear.
I wholeheartedly believe that good ideas, true innovation and groundbreaking science shouldn’t be held back by a lack of experience in fundraising or finance. Translating powerful ideas from passionate, innovative people, into clear actionable and investible businesses is what the DeeptechCFO is all about.
